The Odessa Ballet Soloist Tetyana Afanyutina is debuting as Kitri in the ballet Don Quixote on March 29

The Odessa Ballet Soloist Tetyana Afanyutina is debuting as Kitri in the ballet Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus on Friday, March 29. Dmitro Sharay is performing the part of Basil.

This coming performance is featuring two more debuts – that of Anna Tyutyunnik who is appearing as Kitri’s friend and of Midora Terada who is dancing a part of Cupid.

Other performers are Sergey Dotsenko, Honoured Artist of Ukraine (Espada), Karina Zhitkova (a Street Dancer), Oksana Tunkevich (Mercedes), Oksana Babych (a Gypsy girl), Ellina Pohodnykh (The Queen of Dryads), Nikita Elikarov (Don Quixote), Denis Chernyak (Sancho Panza), Yuri Medvedev (Gamache) and others.

Conductor – Oksana Lyniv.

The world premiere of the ballet Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus in Marius Petipa’s version took place in the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow on December 14, 1869. Odessa first saw that production in February, 1933 in Paul Virsky and Nikolai Bolotov’s choreographic version. Premiere of the current revival was in November 2012 in choreographic version by Yury Vasyuchenko, Honoured Artist of Russia.
