Guest Singers to Lead in Opera Lucia de Lammermoor on May 17, 2013

Guest singers are going to lead in the opera Lucia de Lammermoor. The performance is to be on the stage of the Odessa Opera on May 17. Susanna Chakhoian, a soloist of the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine, Honoured Artist of Ukraine, is performing the principal part of Lucia, while Vitaliy Bilyy, a guest soloist in La Scala, National Opera of Israel and State Opera of Bavaria, is singing the part of Lord Enrico Ashton.  

Young soloists of the Odessa Opera are performing other parts. Oleg Zlakoman is appearing as Edgardo Ravenswood, Victor Shevchenko as Raimondo Bidebent, Dmytro Mikheev as Arturo Bucklaw, Andrew Perfilov as Normanno and Ilona Skrypnik as Alice.  

Music director and conductor for the performance is Aleksandru Samoile, the Principal Conductor of the Odessa Opera, People’s Artist of the Republic of Moldova.

Bio Reference. Susanna Chakhoian (coloratura) and Vitaliy Bilyy (baritone) are graduates of the Odessa Conservatory (The Nezhdanova Odessa National Academy of Music at present). Susanna Chakhoian obtained the degree in piano under Lyudmila Giensburg; Vitaliy Bilyy studied choir conducting under Prof. Alla (Alice) Serebri and solo singing under Prof. Yury Teterya.

 

Later on Susanna Chakhoian entered Pyotr Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music (class of the People’s Artist of the USSR and Ukraine Eugenia Miroshnichenko). Being a student she was invited to the National Opera of Ukraine to sing Juliet in the opera Romeo and Juliet by Charles Gounod (1999). She has recently created a number of operatic characters, such as Lucia (Lucia de Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti), Gilda (Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi), Musetta (La Boheme by G. Puccini), Pamina (The Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart) and others.

Vitaliy Bilyy started his career of an operatic singer in 2000, debuting in the part of George Germon (La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi) on the stage of the Odessa Opera. Later on the singer was invited to the National Opera of Ukraine and then he joined the opera company of the Moscow theatre New Opera. Having obtained a number of awards on the prestigious singing competitions Vitaly Bilyy started appearing on the stages of Metropolitan Opera (New York), Opera Santiago (Chili), followed by the stages of the leading theatres of Italy.

 

The singer has been performing in the productions of Theatre du Capitole (Toulouse, France), Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich, Germany) and National Opera of Israel (Tel-Aviv) since 2011. He is singing in the National Opera of Israel, La Scala (Milano, Italy) and State Opera of Bavaria during the current season of 2012 – 2013. Vitaly Bilyy’s repertoire includes leading parts in the operas Lucia de Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti, Eugene Onegin, Iolanta and The Maid of Orleans by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, La Traviata, Luisa Miller, Attila, Nabucco and Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi, The Tsar’s Bride and The Snow Maiden by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, Boris Godunov and Khovanshchina by Modest Mussorgsky, War and Peace by Sergey Prokofiev and many others.
