Oksana Taranenko has become the Principal Stage Director of the Odessa Opera

Oksana Taranenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) has become the Principal Stage Director of the Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

She occupied the position of the stage director and artistic manager assistant in the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Youth before the new appointment. General Director of the Odessa Opera Nadiya Babich has presented the new stage director to the staff.

Oksana Taranenko has put up two productions as a guest stage director in the Odessa Opera. They were La serva padrona by G. Pergolesi on the small Bel-Etage stage and the musical fairy tale for the whole family The Emerald City (The Wizard of the Oz) with the music of the famous composers of the 18th - 20th centuries that were premiered in last theatrical season.

At the moment she is contributing a lot to the production of the Pique Dame by P. Tchaikovsky (producing stage director is Alexander Titel, the People’s Artist of Russia, producing conductor is Alexandru Samoile, the People’s Artist of Moldova). This production will become the main event in the 204th theatrical season (premiere nights are due on October 19, 20 and 25).

The new principal director will be putting up the opera L’elisir d’amore by G. Donizetti the following spring. The premiere is to be in May 2014.

The position of the principal director of the Odessa Opera has been vacant since 2000. Boris Rabikin, Honoured Artist of Kazakh Republic, was the last to occupy that position.
