Alexander Sotnikov is conducting Don Quixote on Sept 8

Alexander Sotnikov, Honoured Artist of Russia, is conducting the ballet Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus that will take place on the stage of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre tomorrow on Sept 8. The performance starts at 6:30 pm.

Alexander Sotnikov has conducted the ballet Don Quixote in a number of theatres including the Bolshoi Theatre (Russia). Since the premiere of this production and up to now Oksana Lyniv has been the conductor for this production in the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Leading parts are being performed by Tatiana Afanyutina (Kitri) and Dmitro Sharay (Basilio). Sergey Dotsenko, Honoured Artist of Ukraine, is dancing the part of Espada, Alexandra and Olga Vorobova are dancing the parts of Kitri’s friends, Maria Ryazantseva is performing the part of Street Dancer, Ksenia Kravchenko is dancing the part of Mercedes, Catherina Kalchenko is The Queen of Dryads, Nikita Elikarov is Don Quixote.

The world premiere of the ballet Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus (libretto by Marius Petipa after the same name novel by Miguel Cervantes) took place on December 14,1869 in the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow). The first night of this director’s cut on the stage of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre (choreography by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky) was in November 2012.
