The opera “Tosca” by G. Puccini will be held on June 11 under the baton of Music Director of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera Andriy Yurkevych

Andriy Yurkevych 

Born in Zboriv (Ukraine), he graduated in orchestral conducting in 1996 at the Lyssenko Musical Academy of Lviv (Ukraine), under the guidance of Yuriy Lutsiv. He then specialized at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw with Jacek Kaspszyk, at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Gianluigi Gelmetti, and at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro with Alberto Zedda.

Since 1996, he has been resident conductor at the Krushelnytska National Opera in Lviv, where he made his debut in operas by G. Verdi, G. Puccini, G. Bizet and several operas from the Russian repertoire; operettas by J. Strauss (son) F. Lehar; ballets by P. Tchaikovsky, L. Minkus, L. Delib.

He was invited to the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca for F. Marchetti’s Romeo e Giulietta and symphonic concerts. His collaborations include: Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opéra de Montecarlo, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Bruxelles, Greek National Opera in Athens, Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Mr. Yurkevych has recently conducted: Norma in Paris, Vienna, Palermo, Nice and Cologne; Swan Lake, Anna Bolena and The Wizard of Oz in Florence; Eugene Onegin, La Traviata and Macbeth in Gdansk; Roberto Devereux in Zürich and Madrid; Aida in Riga; Lucrezia Borgia in Berlin; Der Fliegende Hollaender, Rigoletto, Madame Butterfly and The Pique Dame in Warsaw; Anna Bolena in Budapest and Kosice; The Pique Dame in Chisinau; symphonic concerts in Genoa and in Milan with the I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra.

Active also on the concert side, Andriy Yurkevych has a wide symphonic repertoire. His upcoming projects include: Anna Bolena and Roberto Devereux in Vienna; Turandot in Santiago de Chile; Lucia di Lammermoor in Budapest; Roberto Devereux in Madrid; Nabucco, Eugene Onegin, Maria Stuarda (new production), Madame Butterfly and Guillaume Tell (new production) in Warsaw; Norma in Tokyo; concerts with the Münchner Symphoniker in Munich.

Andriy Yurkevych was General Music Conductor at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Moldova in Chisinau and at the Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Ukraine. As of the 2014/15 season, he is Music Director of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. He is the first Ukrainian conductor, who was invited at the Vienna State Opera.
